Sumana Shrestha (सुमना श्रेष्ठ0 was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. She is a management consultant, an entrepreneur, an activist, and a Nepali politician. She belongs to the Rashtriya Swatantra Party. Sumana was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives.
She came back to Nepal in May 2015. She was sent by BCG for three months to work with the World Food Programme but she decided not to return to the USA. Sumana effectively organized people in her community to protect historical sites like Kasthamandap and Rani Pokhari. She chaired management sub-committees of the Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee and Rani Pokhari. Sumana also lobbied for access to COVID-19 vaccines for Nepali citizens in the US Senate.
Family
Her father’s name is Ramesh Prasad Shrestha and her mother is Mina Devi Shrestha. Sumana Shrestha’s husband’s name is Pawel Skawinski.
Education
She complete her SLC (Grade 10) from Saraswati Boarding Higher Secondary School in Chhetrapati, Kathmandu. After completing SLC she joined A-Levels and studied Economics and Mathematics. Later she joined Budhanilkantha School and completed high school. She moved to the USA to complete her BA from Bryn Mawr College in Economics and Mathematics from Haverford College and in 2011, she joined MIT Sloan School of Management and completed MBA.
Career
She gained experience working in the USA as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). As a trader and financial analyst, she joined Citigroup and worked for 3 years until 2010. She worked as the Project Coordinator at Antenna Foundation Nepal. She joined Fusemachines in 2019 as the Head of Global Operations and Strategy and worked until 2020.
She was working as a management consultant and executive coach until she entered into politics with the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
Political career
Sumana started campaigning for general elections of Nepal in 2022 and on December 14, 2022, she was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives. On 6 March 2024, she was appointed Minster of Education, Science, and Technology.
